Will the 2012 BMW 1-Series M Coupe be Affordable?

Suppose you can allege BWM, what would you accuse for? We think BMW is responsible for creating most satisfying cars ever to roam the planet. For the past 25 years, its creations have become ever more powerful and faster, and obviously more expensive. The entry-level M car, the £3,700 BMW M3 sedan, now comes in at $56,275 and is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine.

Despite its light camouflage, the 2012 BMW 1-Series M coupe – intentionally named to recall past Z3 and Z4 based M cars – is easy to identify from the outside. The 1-Series’ body and track have been widened significantly front and rear, there is a unique front bumper, the trunklid gets a spoiler lip and the exhaust flows through quadruple tailpipes.

If we look under the hood, the 2012 BMW 1-Series M Coupe has 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six which produces around 335 horsepower at 5,900rpm, with the redline set at 7,000rpm. The torque reaches at 332 lb-ft (450Nm) which is available from 1,500 rpm to 4,500rpm, while an overboost function briefly increases the numbers up to 37 lb-ft (50Nm0 to 369 lb-ft.

BMW offers the 1-Series M Coupe exclusively with a close ratio six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a variable M differential lock. Additional features added by BMW such as new aluminum suspension, powerful braking system with internally-vented, cross drilled cast iron discs at the front and at the rear.

The rack-and-pinion steering is fitted with the hydraulic power steering system called Servotronic which regulates boost in relation to road speed. The steering wheel is mounted with M Drive button that adjust the throttle response program for the sportiest driving.

The exterior paint of 2012 BMW 1-Series M coupe is available in Alpine White non-metallic, Black Sapphire Metallic and Valencia Orange Metallic. How about the interior? Is it typical like the M series? You guess right. The interior of 1-Series M Coupe is the typical for the M models only with few upgrades such as unique trim, sport steering wheel and seats, heaps of leather and alcantara decorated with orange contrast stitching and a revamped instrument panel.

So, with all the engine upgrading, not mention the exterior and interior, how much does the 2012 BMW 1-Series M Coupe cost? It’s 447,010. Most car reviews thought it is not exactly cheap. But the PR Representative of BMW Product and Technology states, “The BMW 1-Series M Coupe is the most affordable M BMW has ever sold, adjusting for inflation, including the original BMW E30 M3 which was introduced back in 1988 and cost $34,000.”
