Volkswagen Studie E-Up!

The Volkswagen E-Up! is one of hybrid concept cars introduced on the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show  besides the Mercedes-Benz Vision S 500 Plug-in Hybrid.

The Volkswagen E-Up! concept car is considered to be a small urban vehicle. It stretches 3.2 meter long and able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds. It powered by an electric motor which gives a continuous 40kW output with a maximum burst of 60kW.

The engine’s torque of the Volkswagen E-Up! concept car is 201 Nm with the top speed of 135 km/h.  the small urban vehicle weighs 1,085 kg with the additional of 240kg of lithium-ion battery. The recharge time from the 230V outlet will take about five hours.

Volkswagen stated that the Volkswagen E-Up! concept car probably will on the market y 2013, but not for worldwide selling. Volkswagen Chairman Prof. Martin Winterkorn states, “It is a genuine success such an electric car must be affordable to a broad customer base and must be uncompromisingly practical in everyday driving. Only then, in high volumes, and ideally on all continents, can one truly speak of the beginning of the electric age in automobiles and a perceptible of their environmental impact.”

The Volkswagen E-Up! concept car is designed under the leadership of Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg who is the Member of the Board Management of Volkswagen Brand and Head of the Development Business Area. The car is based on modules of the new small family vehicle which has zero-emissions.

The Volkswagen E-Up! concept car’s styling is powerful and emphasizes the “design DNA” of Volkswagen and show its cult potential. Volkswagen claimed that there is never before an ultra-compact vehicle which does not aim to be retro and the Volkswagen E-Up! concept car manages to bring such appealing, timeless, class-independent and dynamic qualities.
