So, the engineers on Porsche R&D secret lab added a “4” to the name for the extra all-wheel-drive focus to be the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS. The question popped out of our mind is simple – what is it all for?
If we look back to 1963 – the origin of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS – was where the Porsche 901 gets its big reveal at the IAA in Frankfurt… and basically, it is where it was all started. The next chapter of history before becoming the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS is represented by the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR which won the 1973 Targa Florio thanks in part to its limited-slip differential. The ancestors of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS got the four-wheel drive added to the Porsche 911 mix in 1994 when the Porsche Carrera 4 comes available to customers in both coupe and convertible forms.
Porsche adds all those ingredients to create the sportiest Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS ever, and that is how you get it. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS is packing the same 408 horsepower with a 3.8-liter V6 engine. The rear-drive of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS counterpart for an identical 4.6 seconds sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h).
The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS features an electronically-controlled Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system which delivers impressive traction and powerful acceleration in any driving situation.
The engineers also equip the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS with an electromagnetically-controlled multi-plate clutch reacts rapidly and ensures optimum distribution of power between the front and rear axles. A standard mechanical limited-slip differential on the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS further improves traction and driving stability around turns and on varying road surfaces.
Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS achieved styling changes which include a restyled front bumper with lip spoiler, side skirts, black 19-inches of Porsche RS Spyder wheels and sport buckets trimmed in Alcantara.
