Mercedes-Benz Vision S 500 Plug-in Hybrid

Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car made its first debut on the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and it is just concept at this stage. But it goes where the Mercedes-Benz S400 dared not fully electric operation.  So, what makes the Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car different from the Mercedes-Benz S400?

Well, the Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car combines a 3.5-liter V6 gas engine with a 60 horsepower electric motor and a 10kW lithium-ion battery. Just for your so you know, the other vehicle which uses the battery pack is the Chevrolet Volt with its 16kWh. Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car is the first car on the premium segment of “three-liter car”. It means that the first full-size luxury car earns fuel-economy usage of three liter per 100 km, or 3.2 liter – to be exact.

Those numbers equal of 74 mpg for the US, although the Chevrolet claimed their Volt earns 230 mpg which means the Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car’s rating is skewed by the fact that the vehicle runs part of the time on electricity alone – and was rated using the European standards.

The charging time for the battery pack of Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car is less than one hour with a rapid-charging station, or about 4.5 hours from a conventional household outlet.

Just like the BMW which is touting the BMW 7-Series and BMW X6 hybrids, the Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car promises it will be no environmental prude. The concept car can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds – not bad for hybrid car, huh? Of course sprinting like that will seriously erode the 18-mile electric charge.

Mercedes-Benz Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid concept car might be just a concept, but the German auto maker hinted to add this kind of system to the next generation of S-Class. We are eager to see the electronics well advanced from what is present here, because the Mercedes-Benz really taking hybrid development very seriously.

  1. Could this be possible? or would Frankfurt become more likely in September? Whether it arrives at Frankfurt, would this suggest it would simply be on purchase early 2010 (instead of late 2009, like what’s been the situation with past models)? Media reviews imply an industry launch at the end of 2009 (i.e around Sep Q4 2009).

Also, does anybody think starting @ Frankfurt would lead to it being over shadowed through the 2010 Honda/Acura NSX & the launch from the Acura brand in the Tokyo, japan?

Can anybody read the following particulars around the vehicle:

In the pictures it appears as though it’ll get Honda’s CMBS (an accident staying away from – breaking system), VSA, Engine start button & a gearstick (around the automatic versions) identical or like the Honda FCX?

Also whenever you take a look in the instrument panel, there’s a whitened line within the tachometer area that begins at approximately 6500 Revoltions per minute (could this mean the kind of engine it will likely be getting)? Would this then eliminate the brand new L15 & R18 because they rev to 6800.
