Special Report: Bentley Forced to Work on EXP 9 F SUV?
Here we go again as we dig deeper on what makes Bentley EXP 9 F concept showed in 2012 Geneva Motor Show and gained less than positive feedbacks as the luxury automaker had expected. You see, when Bentley came with the idea of creating luxury SUV like Land Rover does, they think it will be epic but instead, it was such an epic fail which we think that automaker as big and luxury as Bentley really should not make the “dumb” idea into reality. In short, what Bentley did with the EXP 9 F concept was ridiculous instead of revolutionary.
As we dig deeper, we began to ask questions and one of the striking questions is why Bentley came up with SUV idea and not the sportscar or perhaps revolutionary luxury saloon like what they always do over the years. If we think again, SUV is not Bentley field of expertise although we believe that any automakers are capable of anything they want to create, but seriously, SUV is not Bentley’s thing. So, have Bentley run out of ideas for sportscar and desperately created the EXP 9 F concept? That is not exactly the case, folks…
According to autoevolution.com, the Bentley CEO – Wolfgang Duerheimer stated that sportscar would have in Porsche 911 territory and they didn’t want that and created the Bentley EXP 9 F concept. Ah… so that is the problem is all about and this is the perfect example if one automaker is under the same roof of auto groups like Bentley which is under the wings of VW Groups together with Porsche, Audi, and Bugatti. Furthermore, Duerheimer explained that “small” sportscars was the firm favorite with Bentley’s designers as they already proposed design which still resides outsides their head of design’s office.
“In the end the SUV was a better idea. It sits above all its competition. The sports car would have had the Porsche 911 Turbo as opposition,” spilled Duerheimer as we quoted from our aforementioned segment. So, if this is the case, why bother to change the EXP 9 F back to drawing boards?
